Review: MT Rapide Pro Carbon Motorcycle Helmet

Motohawk’s very own James and Matt take an in-depth look at the MT Rapide Pro Carbon, the Spanish manufacturer’s top of the range race-bred motorcycle helmet.

Read on to find out what they thought, learn more about MT Helmets and discover the aerodynamic extras that the Rapide Pro Carbon has to offer.

First Impressions

Matt: When we first took delivery of the MT Rapide Pro Carbon helmet we were surprised by how many features you get for the price. All of this, for under £300, is a steal!

Are MT Helmets any good?

James: MT Helmets have been making helmets for road, race and mud since 1968 and are known for good build quality and exceptional value for money. They have some expensive painted finishes that you don’t often see in this price range so if standing out from the crowd is your thing, they’re definitely worth a look.

What does the MT Rapide Pro Carbon look like?

James: The MT Rapide Pro Carbon has a fully carbon fibre shell, with a stunning polished carbon weave finish. We chose the Red, but the Carbon also comes in two other colours; Fluorescent Yellow or Grey. The race bag included in the box is one of the nicest we’ve seen.

MT Rapide Pro Vent Visor Detail

Aerodynamics and Ventilation

Matt: There’s a removable aerodynamic spoiler which will help fight turbulence on the track and bring kudos on the road, a feature that’s very rare in this price bracket. The lid has twin vents on the crown and chin bar and whilst the vents are a good size, the levers aren’t huge, making them a little fiddly whilst wearing gloves.

Visibility

James: The visor has been optically optimised meaning you won’t get any distorted vision and I really like the visor mechanism. There’s a quick release button to open the visor a slither and let air in, plus a pretty smooth ratchet to bring it all the way up to the top. The visor is super simple to remove and comes with a Pinlock Max Vision Anti-Fog insert in the box - another thing that’s pretty unheard of at this price.

Comfort

Matt: On the inside, the helmet is nicely cushioned and the pads are both removable and washable. It has a secure double d-ring fastening that’s padded too.

Safety

James: Safety-wise there isn’t a Sharp rating to benchmark this helmet but on average, MT helmets test at 3.75/5 in the Sharp rating system. How much does the MT Rapide Pro Carbon weigh?

Matt: In the interests of research (and because we like weighing things), we put the Rapide Pro on our scales. The MT Rapide Pro Carbon in a size Large weighs 1336g. 1336g! To put that in context, that’s LESS than a £500 HJC RPHA11 Crutchlow Race Replica. Madness!

Overall Verdict

James: Just goes to show, if you’re not fussed about a helmet from the big name brands you can still bag yourself a top-notch lid packed with race inspired features, for not a lot of money. The MT Rapide Pro Carbon gets the thumbs up from us!

At Motohawk we stock all 3 colours of the MT Rapide Pro Carbon in sizes XS to XL. Plus, with our FREE delivery and returns service we’ll help you find the ideal helmet for you.
